2019 Board of Directors Elections – Apply!


Our 2019 Board Elections are fast approaching, and we’re seeking new Directors! A January date for the AGM will be announced soon.


This year, we’re asking folks to submit their nominations in advance. Your submission will be shared with members the week before the AGM. This way, members have a chance to see what each candidate can bring to the Board, before they vote.


If you love the mountain biking community and want to get involved, apply by Monday, January 7th!


Send your nomination by email to [email protected] provide the following information:

  1. Your name and the position(s) you’re running for.
  2. The skills/experience that make you a strong candidate for the position (suggested word count: 200).
  3. Your capacity to commit to a volunteer role, and why you’re interested in being on the SORCA board (suggested word count: 200).


We’ve got 8 positions open on the Board for 2019 that you can apply for. Each position is a 2-year term. Positions are:



  • Serve as a face of the organization and build strong relationships with local partners, including local, provincial and Squamish Nation governments, businesses and commercial organizations
  • Spearhead unique projects as needed in partnership with the Executive Director and other Directors
  • Help to manage organizational strategy



Director of Cincos

  • Organize Cinco XC races on alternating Wednesdays from April – September
  • Support event sponsors to organize after-parties and race courses
  • Provide event descriptions for promotions/social media
  • Liaise with Spruce Race timing as needed on timing logistics


Director of Socials

  • Organize and manage Social Rides on alternating Wednesdays from April – September
  • Organize one Super Social
  • Support event sponsors to organize after-parties and race courses
  • Provide event descriptions for promotions/social media


Director of Fundraising

  • Work with Executive Director to identify funding opportunities
  • Develop strategies to secure new and returning sponsors and funders
  • Review grant applications and sponsorship packages prepared by Executive Director
  • Support other funding/donation initiatives (e.g. database development, campaigns)
  • Specific Delegation to Executive Director (weekly check-ins)


Director of Trail Planning and Advocacy

  • Determine 2 – 3 Shovel ready projects and work with Executive Director and Lead Builder as appropriate to provide information for proposals
  • Advocate with developers and land owners to suggest/negotiate best outcomes for the trail network
  • Liaise on new build projects as appropriate
  • Support advocacy to set up Trail Advisory Committee with DOS and other trail groups


Director of Trail Maintenance

  • Manage recruitment and hiring of Trail Crew with support from Executive Director
  • Work with Lead Builder / Trails Coordinator to manage maintenance plan and budget, including Trail Crew, materials and contractors
  • Liaise with volunteer trail builders
  • Support permitting of new trail projects
  • Coordinate maintenance projects with partners at the Squamish Trails Society and Squamish Dirt Bike Association



Director of Community Engagement

  • Spearhead membership discount program with existing and new partners
  • Work with Executive Director to build corporate membership program, liaising with corporate membership organizations
  • Develop other partnership concepts with local business – e.g. ride + stay packages, destination development, etc.
  • Support membership drive campaigns, raffles, etc.


Director of Youth Programming

  • Liaise with the District of Squamish on the Youth Mountain Bike Program, provide oversight
  • Coordinate Youth Toonies in partnership with volunteers
  • Support development of partnership for Squamish Nation youth mountain bike program
  • Other youth programs – e.g. youth trail days
