Dig for Dave 2025
In August 2022, our community lost an iconic citizen, family man, trail builder, and SORCA’s trail crew manager. Even if you didn't know Dave personally, you've likely ridden on his ‘artwork’ somewhere in the network. Every year, Dave’s family and SORCA organize ‘Dig For Dave’ to give one of his iconic trails some needed maintenance, share stories, and reminisce about Dave.
This year’s Dig For Dave (May 4th) volunteer dig day will focus on the exit of one of Dave’s most iconic trails in the Ntsew̓ásus area. The volunteer dig day will be led by SORCA’s trail crew and a team of experienced builders. SORCA would like to thank the team at Rec Sites and Trails BC for supporting SORCA with the new exit in collaboration with the Squamish Nation, BC, and the Ntsew̓ásus Visitor Use Management Strategy implementation team. A Squamish Nation elder and Squamish Nation staff will join the dig day. Volunteers are advised to carpool (4WD highly recommended) or ebike to the site. Please use the apron parking lot as a staging area and meet at 9 am at the intersection of Mamquam FSR and Powerhouse Spring Rd (no parking at this location).
After the digging is done, there will be an après and Squamish Search and Rescue fundraiser hosted at the Sunwolf wedding tent. We encourage folks who can't make it to the dig part of the day to join us for a meal and raise a glass to Dave at the après. The Après event starts at the Sunwolf wedding tent at 3:00 pm and is $10 per person, with 100% of the proceeds going to Squamish Search and Rescue.
There will also be a few raffle prizes at the apres with all proceeds going to Squamish SAR.
A trail maintenance day to celebrate the late Dave Reid and the incredible impact he had on this community and trail network. The event is supported by Fergie’s Cafe, Sunwolf Riverside Resort, SRAM, Maggie Philips - Sea to Sky Physio and Velocio.
All are welcome and no experience is required! Note that this years project site is relatively challenging to access. Ebikes or 4WD carpooling is strongly recommended. If you can't attend the dig, register for the apres and we'll see you there (more apres info below)!
