Thank you, Sea to Sky Gondola
Thank you to Sea to Sky Gondola, one of our Black Diamond corporate sponsors and Trail CHAMP for ‘Rupert’. Their support is vital for the professional maintenance and sustainability of our iconic trail network.
They are also returning as the Platinum Sponsor for The Loam Hustler on May 30th. For the second year in a row, they are helping make the race more accessible by covering entry fees for all aMTB riders, directly removing financial barriers and ensuring more riders can get to the start line. Thank you to the Sea to Sky Gondola team for your ongoing commitment to our events and a more inclusive riding community!
Meadow of the Grizzly Update
Following work undertaken between October 2026 and April 2026, upgrades to the upper portions of Meadow of the Grizzly on Round Mountain are now ready to ride. The project, led by SORCA and contracted out to Howler, focused on addressing long-standing erosion and trail degradation issues in one of the network’s more challenging environments. The terrain in this area presents unique and challenging constraints, which limit excavation depth and prevent water from draining below the surface. These conditions, combined with very steep previous trail alignment, had led to significant tread deterioration over time and were gradually pushing the trail beyond its intended intermediate (blue square) difficulty rating.
Given budget limitations, a full rebuild was not feasible. Instead, the project prioritized targeted improvements to enhance the rider experience and improve sustainability. This included reducing the trail grade through a series of alignment adjustments and extensive drainage refinement. While the resulting trail differs somewhat from a typical flow trail due to the challenging terrain, it offers a much improved riding experience, especially for intermediate riders. The new work is expected to go through a bedding-in period where trail conditions will evolve, and the surface will be variable. When using the trail, expect changing conditions and use caution.
The total project value was just over $80,000, fully funded by a federal grant and a secondary private grant. The trail is CLOSED past Short Circuit while work continues on the lower portion of the trail during this very dry period. Please do not ride on closed sections of trail as it will cause more work to be required by hand crews before opening.
