The Squamish Offroad Cycling Association (SORCA) is a volunteer run not for profit organization that advocates for mountain biking in Squamish BC. SORCA operates entirely within the Squamish Nation traditional territory. As a part of our mission statement, SORCA maintains and expands Squamish’s trail network. Our maintenance program involves the hiring of a trail crew that works on mountain bike, dirt bike and hiking trails throughout the area.

Working with SORCA provides an foothold into the mountain biking industry, one that is thriving in Squamish. There are currently 48 different companies based in the DIstrict of Squamish that are directly involved in the mountain bike industry employing 148 people. Squamish is a must visit destination for mountain bikers all over the world. In 2016 more than 23,000 visitors came to squamish to bike spending more than $10 Million in our local economy.

The Summer Lead will assist the Trail Maintenance Director in implementing SORCA’s maintenance program and will receive extensive trail maintenance training throughout the first portion of his or her employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate(s) will work with our Trail Maintenance Director to lead our maintenance program and First Nations Summer Trail Crew
  • Being part of the team to foster a positive attitude about mountain biking in Squamish
  • Manage and coordinate other trail crew members.
  • Work as part of the trail crew on hiking, mountain biking and motorized trails throughout the Squamish area.
  • Communicate trail work that has been completed to membership through various media channels
  • Ensure trail maintenance activities are properly documented
  • Coordinate the rest of the trail crew to ensure everyone knows the plan for the week, that the correct tools are available and in working order.
  • Organize and promote trail days
  • Help to direct maintenance priorities and coordinate with STS and SDBA leaders, volunteer trail builders and other stakeholders.
  • Other tasks that the SORCA executive needs help with.

Key Attributes of a Successful Candidate

  • Experience working with youth in a leadership role.
  • Passion for the outdoors and Squamish’s trails
  • Positive attitude, outlook and team member.
  • High level of responsibility and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Trail building and or basic carpentry skills would be an asset but are not necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • First Aid certificate an asset.

Time requirement: 30 – 40 Hours a week, May to September, start date flexible.
Pay: $20-$25 we will commensurate with experience.
